Infection control is a critical component of pediatric healthcare, particularly in settings with high rates of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs). Pediatric nurses are at the forefront of implementing infection prevention and control (IPC) measures, ensuring that protocols are followed to reduce the spread of infectious diseases in healthcare settings (Nwigwe et al., 2023). In Kebbi State, healthcare facilities face significant challenges in maintaining standard infection control practices due to resource constraints, inadequate training, and lack of consistent supervision (Adeleke et al., 2023).
This review will examine the compliance of pediatric nurses with infection control guidelines in Kebbi State, focusing on the key practices of hand hygiene, sterilization of medical equipment, and the prevention of nosocomial infections in pediatric wards. Understanding the barriers to compliance and the gaps in knowledge or resources will provide insights into strategies for improving infection control in the state.
Despite the establishment of infection control protocols in many healthcare facilities, compliance among healthcare workers, including pediatric nurses, remains inconsistent. In Kebbi State, the challenges of proper training, the availability of materials, and the monitoring of infection control practices contribute to the high rates of healthcare-associated infections. This review aims to assess how well pediatric nurses comply with infection control guidelines and to identify areas for improvement.
This review will focus on pediatric nurses working in public and private healthcare settings in Kebbi State, examining their knowledge and compliance with infection control protocols. Limitations include the potential for bias in self-reported data and the challenge of obtaining comprehensive data from all healthcare facilities in the state.
